Apple’s New iMac Gets M6, and Here’s What It Costs in Canada

Apple's new iMac with M6 lineup in green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue and silver

Apple has refreshed the 24-inch iMac with its M6 chip, bringing more CPU and GPU cores, faster AI performance and Wi-Fi 7 to its colourful all-in-one.

The new iMac starts at $2,099 CAD in Canada. It’s the latest launch in what Apple’s Greg Joswiak called an exciting week, following Monday’s OLED iPad mini.

Pre-orders open tomorrow, Wednesday, October 28, and the iMac starts arriving to customers and in stores on Friday, November 6.

What’s New on iMac With M6

The M6 chip goes up to a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU, two more cores of each than the last generation. Every GPU core now has a Neural Accelerator, and the chip uses a Dual 16-core Neural Engine. Apple says that adds up to as much as five times faster on-device AI performance and up to twice the graphics performance compared to the M4 iMac.

Memory bandwidth climbs to up to 170GB/s. Apple also claims up to 2.5 times faster performance in Excel versus an M1 iMac, and up to 18 times faster performance for anyone still on an Intel-based iMac.

The iMac ships with macOS 27 and Siri AI, which now works in French as well as English. Siri AI is built into Spotlight and can find things across your messages, emails and photos, then take action in apps.

Connectivity gets a big bump, too. There’s Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, and the 12-core models offer 2.5Gb Ethernet, which Apple says is up to 2.5 times faster than the previous generation. SSD read and write speeds are up to twice as fast, and you get up to four Thunderbolt 4 ports, with support for up to two 6K external displays.

Familiar features carry over, including the 24-inch 4.5K Retina display with 500 nits of brightness, a 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View, a six-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio and a three-microphone array. The 12-core models can be ordered with a nano-texture display, and they come with a Magic Keyboard with Touch ID as standard.

Colour options are blue, green, pink, yellow, purple, orange and silver, each with a colour-matched keyboard and mouse or trackpad that charge over USB-C.

iMac With M6 Pricing in Canada

Here’s what the new iMac costs in Canada before tax:

  • 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU: from $2,099 CAD, or $2,029 CAD with education pricing
  • 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU: from $2,299 CAD, or $2,159 CAD with education pricing

That $2,099 CAD starting price is the same one the M4 iMac moved to after Apple’s wave of price increases in Canada back in June.

Apple’s Mac week isn’t over yet, either. The company still has its Pro and Tell event on October 28, and the OLED iPad mini goes up for pre-order the same day.
