Google’s New Fitbit Edge Is Coming to Canada: Here’s Pricing

Google has announced the Fitbit Edge, a new screen-equipped fitness tracker with Gemini-powered coaching, and it’s coming to Canada for $229.

The Edge sits above the screenless $129 Fitbit Air in Google’s lineup. It adds a 1.34-inch always-on display, a side button and built-in GPS. Google says it’s the largest and brightest screen on any Fitbit tracker, with 46% more viewing area, in a body just 11.5mm thin with a case 45% lighter than the Apple Watch Series 12.

The Edge tracks more than 50 exercise modes and can automatically recognize up to 100 workouts if you forget to hit start. Google says GPS accuracy is up to 40% better than previous trackers, and there’s a built-in altimeter for hills and stairs. Google Maps, media controls and notifications are on the wrist too.

Health Coach builds weekly fitness plans that adjust to your schedule, then gives on-wrist cues during runs telling you when to “push harder, ease up, or hold your pace.”

Battery life is rated at up to seven days. Five minutes on the charger gets you a full day, and a full charge takes about 90 minutes. It’s also Google’s first repairable fitness tracker, with a replaceable battery.

Health tracking includes an ECG app, high and low heart rate alerts, SpO2, skin temperature and sleep tracking that Google says is 15% more accurate at detecting sleep stages. The Edge also supports the monthly blood pressure and insulin resistance trends from Google’s Health Guardian features.

In Canada, the Fitbit Edge is priced at $229. Preorders open today on the Google Store and through retail partners, and it hits shelves October 27.

Many of the coaching features need a Google Health Premium subscription, and the tracker includes a three-month free trial. Premium is also bundled with Google AI Pro and AI Ultra. The tracker works with iPhones on iOS 16.4 or later and Android 11 or later through the Google Health app.

It comes in Obsidian, Fog, Olive and Canyon finishes, with Active, Performance Loop, Magnet and Metal Links bands sold separately. It’s rated 5 ATM and IP68 and weighs 17.7 g without the band.

A Stephen Curry Special Edition with a basketball clockface and Rye colourway is also coming to Canada while supplies last.

I’ve been using the Fitbit Air, and so far it’s been a good fitness tracker, so I’m curious to see what adding a screen brings to the Edge. I’ll have more on it soon.

Would you pick the Fitbit Edge over an Apple Watch?
