Microsoft Brings xAI’s Grok 3 Models to Azure Platform

At the Build 2025 developer conference, Microsoft has announced the integration of Elon Musk’s xAI-developed Grok 3 models into its Azure AI Foundry platform, enhancing the flexibility and capabilities of its AI offerings.

With the inclusion of Grok 3 and Grok 3 mini models, developers can now access a broader spectrum of AI tools directly through Azure, benefiting from Microsoft’s standard service level agreements and enterprise-grade security features.

The integration of Grok models is part of Microsoft’s broader strategy to position Azure as a neutral hub for AI innovation. By hosting models from various providers, including competitors like OpenAI, Microsoft aims to offer developers the flexibility to choose the best tools for their specific needs.

With Grok included, developers gain:

  • Direct access to Grok 1.5 and Grok 1.5-mini under Microsoft’s enterprise-grade SLA.
  • Support for multi-agent and multi-model systems, allowing Grok to work alongside other leading models.
  • Faster prototyping and deployment, thanks to built-in tools like Visual Studio Code extensions, GitHub integration, and cloud-scale orchestration.

Grok’s arrival is also part of Microsoft’s broader AI strategy to remain a neutral platform that supports various leading AI models—not just those from OpenAI. In recent months, Microsoft has opened Azure to models from Meta (LLaMA), Mistral, and now xAI.

Microsoft’s adoption of the new Model Context Protocol (MCP) further supports this vision. MCP creates a shared way for AI agents to communicate and interact with tools, documents, and users—improving cross-model collaboration and system design.

By integrating Grok into Azure AI Foundry, Microsoft strengthens its role as a key player in the AI development ecosystem. For xAI and Elon Musk, it’s a big win in making Grok more widely available in enterprise and developer environments.
