WhatsApp Boosts User Security with ‘Advanced Chat Privacy’ Feature

WhatsApp has just introduced a new security feature titled “Advanced Chat Privacy,” aimed at providing users with greater control over their conversations.

The “Advanced Chat Privacy” setting, now available in both individual and group chats, prevents participants from exporting messages or using Meta AI integration to process chat content. This development is particularly beneficial for discussions involving sensitive information, especially within groups where participants may not be well-acquainted.

While this feature enhances privacy, it’s important to note that it doesn’t currently block screenshots or manual media downloads. WhatsApp has indicated that this is the initial version of the feature, with plans to introduce additional protections in future updates.

The feature has been introduced in a response to the growing need for secure communication channels, especially in scenarios where users discuss personal or sensitive topics. By preventing the export of chats and the automatic saving of media, WhatsApp aims to ensure that conversations remain confined to the intended participants.

To activate “Advanced Chat Privacy,” users can navigate to the chat’s settings and select the respective option. The feature is rolling out in the latest version of the app.

WhatsApp already offers end-to-end encryption for messages and calls, ensuring that only the sender and recipient can access the content. Additional privacy features include disappearing messages, chat locks, and the ability to silence unknown callers.

Oh yes, Zuck has scruples. No one should listen in on whatsapp conversations … except of course Meta's own AI … which users can not turn off even if they wanted to.
