Samsung Discontinues Galaxy Z TriFold, Just 3 Months Later

Samsung’s ambitious Galaxy Z TriFold, a device that turns from a standard phone into a 10-inch tablet, is being discontinued only three months after it first hit the shelves, Bloomberg is reporting.

The news came directly from a company spokesperson who confirmed that the tech giant is winding down production. Samsung has already stopped selling the device in its home market of South Korea. In the United States, the phone will remain available only until the current stock runs out.

The Galaxy Z TriFold was never meant to be a phone for everyone. With a massive price tag of $2,899, it was clearly aimed at early adopters and tech enthusiasts with deep pockets. The device featured a unique dual-hinge design and a triple-panel screen that offered a massive workspace.

There are a few reasons why Samsung is calling it quits so early. First, the cost of making these phones has skyrocketed. Prices for key parts like RAM and specialized display components have gone up significantly. Because the TriFold is so complex to build, it became difficult for Samsung to make a profit on it.

Second, the device had its share of issues. Some early buyers reported problems with the durability of the inner screen. A complicated design with two hinges means there are more things that can go wrong. By ending sales now, Samsung can avoid the long-term headache of supporting a fragile, low-volume product.

While the TriFold is going away, its features might live on. Samsung executives have hinted that the widescreen aspect ratio and multitasking software developed for the TriFold could eventually come to cheaper, more durable foldable phones.

For now, the company is shifting its focus back to its mainstream flagships, like the newly launched Galaxy S26 Ultra.
