Cogeco Wireless Launches in Canada: These Are the First Cities

Montreal-based Cogeco has officially launched its new wireless service in Canada, with early users already on the network and expansion planned in 12 markets across Québec and Ontario in the coming weeks.
The announcement came as the company reported its financial results for the third quarter of fiscal 2025, ending May 31. The company says it is maintaining strong growth in internet subscriptions but is facing temporary customer losses in its U.S. operations.
“Our financial results for the third quarter of fiscal 2025 were notable for our strong Canadian Internet subscriber loading, efficiencies-driven margin expansion and significant free cash flow,” said Frédéric Perron, Cogeco’s President and CEO on Wednesday.
The wireless rollout builds on the company’s U.S. mobile launch last year of Breezeline Mobile. “We are deeply excited to ramp up our wireless customer base in Canada over the coming weeks, adding to our prior launch of a similar service in the U.S. last year,” said Perron. “Wireless will become a powerful tool to retain and grow our North American wireline customer base over time.”
Cogeco says it is now active in a limited number of Canadian markets, with a broader rollout planned for the fall. “We already have a first cohort using the wireless service and are progressively expanding to cover 12 Canadian markets… over the coming weeks, in anticipation of a full geographic deployment in the fall season,” said Perron.
The wireless service is exclusively for its wireline customers, targeting “low to mid data users” with a launch bonus for those signing up. No specific details were shared yet, said Perron on its earnings call, who said this is the first major wireless launch in Canada in the past decade.
According to Cogeco, 100% of its broadband footprint is covered by its wireless spectrum partner, which has 92% powered by 5G on 3500 and 3800 MHz bands.
The initial launch includes Alma, Magog, Rimouski, Saint-Georges, Saint-Hyacinthe, Saint-Sauveur, and Trois-Rivières in Québec, as well as Brockville, Chatham, Cobourg, Cornwall, and Welland in Ontario.
Cogeco is launching its wireless services in Canada through a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) framework, first announced in August of last year. The company is leveraging its partnership with an unnamed wireless network operator (we’re guessing it’s likely Rogers) and Eastlink, part of a five-year deal.
